Love motels, themed motels, fantasy motels, oh my! This one is probably as wholesome as it gets.
The Black Swan Inn is a themed fantasy hotel in Pocatello, Idaho. It’s in a beautifully renovated 1930’s building. They have 14 unique rooms for couples looking to get away for some romance, celebrate a honeymoon, anniversary or any occasion. The hotel is only rated as a “3 Star Hotel” but has luxury amenities and excellent reviews.
The owners Larry and Debbie Fisher purchased this 1930’s tudor style building that was formerly an apartment complex in 1997. They began renovations and the first themed room was the Cave. Larry has a background as a contractor and his wife Debbie is an artist. They work together in creating each space.
I asked Larry what inspired him to create a themed motel, he paused and replied with a smile and said they had stayed at one in Utah. He said he had always admired the building and eventually convinced the owners to sell to them. He said they have a couple of rooms they haven’t even started construction on as well as another property “Destinations Inn” in Idaho Falls.
This part of the country is conservative and I asked one of the staff if the hotel is LGBTQ friendly and they replied, yes. They said they welcome everyone and they also have rooms at different price points because they believe everyone should have an opportunity to visit.
The property is very charming and clean and I look forward to another visit!
